How long have you worked with the RCMP?
I started in 1997 as a co-op student. The following summer I was hired as a casual employee to work in the Informatics department maintaining computer inventory, including wiping sensitive information from computers that I was preparing to be donated to public schools for students to use.
In 2003, there was a job posting for an indeterminate position as a Records Analyst which I applied for and accepted. In 2007, I applied for and accepted the position of supervising nine employees in the Records and Mail Services Section, which I held for the majority of my career. I worked on a few assignments including as the Cannabis Coordinator which involved researching the new laws and providing advice and guidance to other RCMP employees.
In 2022, I transferred to the Strategic Planning and Research section where I am currently working today.
What do you love about your job?
The people I work with. They are intelligent, compassionate, driven, and passionate about creating innovative products to continue guiding the organization forward in a positive direction.
The variety of duties and continuous education have made for an interesting career and the satisfaction of making a difference. I am also involved with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion working group and the Women’s Employment Network.
Why did you decide to work for the RCMP in the first place?
I chose the RCMP as there’s a certain pride in working for the Canadian national police force. Growing up, I saw the RCMP everywhere, from the local police force in New Brunswick where my parents are from to watching the musical ride with the members in their red serge. They are an iconic symbol of Canada.
What skills help you in your role?
I’m a logical person who loves solving problems and trying to think outside the box. Being new in my unit, I bring a fresh view and new eyes. I have a fantastic team that works well together. I am a people person, a compassionate person. I take pride in utilizing good organization and a common-sense approach.
