What does your job look like?

I am a Jack of all trades. I’m in charge of updating procedures, supporting staff, and making sure everything runs smoothly. This job requires knowledge of administrative procedures and legislation.

Why is your job important?

When an individual wants to apply for a firearms license, we are responsible for explaining the process clearly. We do the investigation ahead of granting the license and refuse it if required. Without us, a fundamental aspect of public safety would lapse: who is legally allowed to obtain firearms in Canada.

What brought you to the RCMP?

I applied for firearms in 2009 and started as a program assistant. In 2015, I moved up to a firearms agent when that position became available. I think I was the second Firearms agent in Canada. Following that, when the operations coordinator position opened, I applied and got it.

I had no previous experience in the field and simply applied for the position once I noticed it was opened.

I was ready for a new challenge after having spent years in the private sector. The steep learning curve at Firearms has proven to be just right for me. This career choice has made me happy. I don’t see myself moving from here.

“I don’t own a single gun.”
