What do you like about your job?

I touch on everything that happens within the operation. I make sure everything is running smoothly; and if it isn’t, I figure out what needs to be done to have everything back up and running again.

This is my favourite position I’ve had so far. I get to be involved in so many things, I’m busy in a good way. I appreciate that my opinion and my experience is valued, and I get to express myself. There’s never a dull moment; never a day the same.

What changes have you seen over the last 25 years?

The improvements in the systems since 1998 are huge. A transfer used to take 3 hours, but now it takes 3 minutes. Things are constantly changing. The regime of licensing has changed. We used to have possession-only licenses, but those were taken away. Registration of long guns was taken away with bill C-19. I find a lot of things come full circle. Some of the processes we had back then are being revisited because some of them did work.
