What does your job look like on a daily basis?

I wish I could say it was always the same thing. I mostly deal with the public coming in if they have complaints, need record checks, collisions, such things.

I support officers with provincial court issues such as traffic and bylaw tickets. I am also the de facto IT person here if anything breaks down or someone needs help with our server.

Is there anything you don’t do?

I mean, I have fixed pipes here before. I’m the jack of all trades.

What do you like about your job?

It’s the variety. I never know what’s going to happen throughout the day. And I mean, honestly, it’s kind of cliche, but I like helping people.

People have lots of questions, the public doesn’t understand that there are different types of law, and often thinks that the RCMP deals with everything. I direct people to the right resources.

Why do you keep coming back to the RCMP?

The people are good to work with, and I just like the job.

I really enjoy working with different people and helping the public. Also, the stability associated with the job is a plus.

How did you get started with the RCMP?

I took an internship with the YMCA long ago. They had a program with a nine-month internship in different agencies. After high school, I had to rethink my career plans because of a bad football injury. I saw the YMCA ad in the newspaper and decided to participate. One of the places participating in the program was the RCMP Detachment in my hometown. They hired me full-time.

I really like law and law enforcement. I felt drawn to helping the people in my hometown and the RCMP really represented that for me.

“It’s kind of cliche, but I like helping people.”
