Why is your job important?
When someone is convicted of a sex offense in Canada, they are issued an order to comply with the National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR). Our office looks after the entirety of the province of New Brunswick.
We ensure offenders remain compliant with their reporting obligations and conditions, and if they go non-compliant, it’s our unit that prepares all the necessary documents for court and recommends the charge.
We also assist the investigators who are investigating crimes of a sexual nature. We’re able to help prevent crimes of a sexual nature by running what we call a tactical query on the NSOR database to try and identify possible suspects.
It’s a heavy job, there’s a lot of reading and a lot of unpleasant reading, but it’s so important.
When you identify a suspect, it’s really rewarding to know that you’re helping prevent someone from being harmed.
What made you want to work with the RCMP?
In university, I took one criminology class and that changed my whole path. I pivoted my university program and found my passion. The RCMP was the end goal. There was room for movement and growth, and there is a huge variety of positions within the public service that allow me to continue to do the work that I love.
“It’s a heavy job, but it’s so important.”
