What do you do in your job?

I make sure all of the parts that are supplied to the vehicles are purchased and available for when the vehicles get built. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that needs to be done. For example, when a model of a vehicle changes, so do a lot of our parts. We are constantly moving and shuffling parts around and we custom make parts on a regular basis.

There are different types of emergency vehicles we build, and each type has different parts and special needs to consider. Sometimes parts can take up to six to eight months to get in so I’m constantly forecasting to see what’s coming up in the queue, what we’re going to be building, what’s going to be happening.

What do you like about your job?

I constantly feel like I’m flying by the seat of my pants. Prior to working for the RCMP, I used to be an account manager and ran a multi-million-dollar business; I was constantly on the go travelling. Whereas this job puts structure back into my life, so I have a regular job, but I also have chaos—and I thrive on that.

I’m the person that talks with the suppliers, talks with our technicians, talks with the management team. I go in-between everyone. Plus, I love my boss; I love my team. It’s pretty awesome.

What do you like about working for the RCMP?

It’s definitely different. I love being able to see what the RCMP does as a whole. I used to not understand what the RCMP did and what they meant. Now I see behind-the-scenes of what’s actually happening, and all the different avenues they’re taking to safeguard and improve. Now I love the RCMP and stick up for them. When people say bad things, I’m like, “oh, hang on. Wait a second.”

Last question, are you a car person?

Yes, I love cars. Between me and my husband, we have 10 vehicles.
